About Ember Range

Built by a firefighter.
For homeowners.

Hey, I'm Kelsey Nordsiden. I'm 27 years old and I've spent the last five years in firefighting — from volunteer crews to wildland fire to my current role as a full-time structure firefighter. I've seen what fire does to homes, to neighborhoods, to entire communities. And I've seen what makes the difference between a home that survives and one that doesn't.

When firefighters respond to a wildland fire, they have seconds — not minutes — to make decisions about which homes to save and which ones are already gone. When your yard is fire-resilient, you give firefighters a fighting chance. You buy them time. You buy your neighbors time. That buffer of smart landscaping can be the difference between a community that recovers and one that doesn't.

"By you having a more fire-resilient home, we can better save more homes and communities."

Why 2026. Why now.

I watched the California fires devastate communities in ways that will take generations to recover from. Entire neighborhoods — gone. Families with nothing. And closer to home, the Marshall Fire tore through Boulder County, Colorado in the dead of winter — destroying more than a thousand homes in a matter of hours and reminding everyone in the Mountain West that this isn't just a summer problem, and it isn't just a California problem. I know this fire season is going to be dangerously dry. It's not a question of if it happens again — it's where and when.

Here's what I also know: people are already buying plants. They're already working on their yards. They're already spending the money and putting in the effort. I just want to help you make smarter choices while you're at it. A different plant here, better spacing there, the right materials in the right places — small changes that make your yard more beautiful and dramatically safer for your family and for every firefighter who might one day need to protect it.

That's why I created Ember Range. Not to scare people — but to show them that the yard they want and the yard that protects them can be the same yard.

"Since people are already buying plants and doing their yards, I just want you to have the most functional, beautiful, and safe yard possible."
